That was the last of the action at Vale Park on a cold December evening as City comfortably secured their place in the latter stages of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy to become the last League 2 team left in the Northern Section of the competition.
After some good passing from City, retaining the ball well, Alan Connell's angled pass found James Hanson in space in the area but his firm angled drive was sliced narrowly wide of the target.
Myrie-Williams was without doubt Vale's main threat on the night and after getting the better of Nathan Doyle he hit a tame shot towards goal that Jon McLaughlin smothered well.
Garry Thompson had two assists to his name and almost grabbed himself a goal shortly after; cutting inside from the right hand side he unleashed a fierce left footed shot from 25 yards that Neal had to tip over the bar.
To add insult to injury, City doubled their lead barely 90 seconds later; Connell again highly involved he picked out the run of Thompson who squared to Craig Forsyth unmarked by the back post, the young Scotsman composed himself before firing assuringly past Neal.
Adams' men thought they had a nailed on penalty shortly after; Myrie-Williams proved too quick and strong for McHugh as he burst past him into the area, going down under an apparent challenge the appeals rained down on the referee but he waved them away and booked Myrie-Williams for simulation. Even the most devout City supporter would have probably disagreed with the ref's decision but City were off the hook on this occasion.
With barely a minute of the second half played, The Bantams took the lead. Alan Connell's brilliant reverse pass sent Thompson racing away; he picked out Ritchie Jones with a square ball and he slammed the ball into the bottom corner with a first time side footed effort.
Jennison Myrie-Williams tried his luck with a 30 yard shot that rocketed towards goal, fortunately it was watched well by McLaughlin who parried the ball behind for a corner kick.
West Ham loanee Blair Turgott had the beating of full back Doug Loft for pace and when he got beyond him on this occasion he produced a low cross that was dummied by Garry Thompson and hammered narrowly wide by Craig Forsyth.
Connell's intelligent play was proving effective and his clever pass released Forsyth who sauntered forward but his powerful shot from the edge of the area crashed narrowly wide of the target.
Jon McLaughlin then pulled off an even better save to keep the hosts at bay; Sam Morsy's corner was met with a powerful header by Calvin Andrew but City's stopper was on hand to thwart him.
The game didn't take long to get going and Alan Connell came close to scoring after only two minutes; he stepped up to hit a freekick that beat the wall and forced a low save from Chris Neal in Vale's goal.
City have booked their place in The Johnstone's Paint Trophy Northern Section Semi-Final with a convincing win over Port Vale at Vale Park to avenge the home defeat inflicted earlier in the season. Well taken goals from Ritchie Jones and Craig Forsyth proved enough to see off Micky Adams' side.
