CITY COMPLETE DOYLE DEAL

12 July 2016

The Bantams have moved to strengthen their goalkeeping department ahead of the new season by completing the signing of experienced shot-stopper Colin Doyle.

Doyle has penned a two-year deal with Bradford City this Tuesday to become the club's third signing of the summer.

The 31 year-old moves to Valley Parade after City triggered a release clause in his contract with previous club Blackpool following their relegation into Sky Bet League Two.

The Cork-born custodian has been capped for Republic of Ireland at senior and under-21 level.

Despite Blackpool's eventual relegation from League One last season, Doyle kept an impressive eleven clean-sheets out of thirty-five games for the Tangerines.

The imposing 'keeper, who stands at over 6' 5'', will be reunited with current City goalkeeping coach Steve Banks after the pair previously worked together at Bloomfield Road.

Doyle spent one season at Blackpool having joined them from Birmingham City in 2015. He was named their club captain upon his arrival.

Speaking about his move to Bradford, Doyle said: "Once I knew Bradford were interested, it was a pretty easy decision.

"I've seen that the club have sold roughly 15,000 season tickets which is phenomenal for League One, and it will be good to play in front of those sorts of crowds.

"This is a big club and I'm looking forward to getting down to business now.

"I know Banksy (Steve Banks) last season from Blackpool and we had a good relationship so hopefully we can continue that this season, push on and do some good things.

"I'm glad that the move has been done relatively early into pre-season so I can get settled in and get to know the lads. I want to work hard in pre-season and get that number one jersey."

Prior to his time with Blackpool, Doyle enjoyed a lengthy association with first club Birmingham.

Doyle spent twelve years in total at St Andrews after signing his first professional contract in 2003.

While at Birmingham, Doyle played for the Blues in the Premier League, Championship and UEFA Europa League.

He has also featured in the past for Chester City, Nottingham Forest, Millwall and Coventry City during loan spells away from Birmingham.
