The Bantams continued their impressive start to life in League 1 with an emphatic victory over ten-man Brentford.

Two goals from James Hanson, coming either side of efforts from Nahki Wells and Garry Thompson, gave City their third straight home win since the start of the new campaign.

The Bantams' four-goal blast followed Brentford 'keeper David Button's dismissal midway through the first half for a desperate lunge on Wells.

Button was given a straight red card for a flying challenge on Wells just outside the Brentford penalty box after the Bermudian striker had burst forward and found himself in behind the visitors' defensive line.

With the Bees a man light, Hanson fired City into the lead four minutes before the break when he stabbed home a James Meredith cross.

Looking to kill the game off after the restart, Phil Parkinson's men managed to put the game firmly beyond the Londoners with three second half goals in just nine minutes.

Wells doubled City's lead on the hour mark with a simple tap-in after Brentford defender Tony Craig had sent his attempted headed back-pass beyond the on-rushing visiting sub shot-stopper Jack Bonham.

A thumping header from Thompson - his first of the season -  following another Meredith assist made it a triple for The Bantams barely three minutes.

Hanson then swooped to head home a Kyel Reid corner at the far post a further six minutes into the half to net his second of the match and virtually secure the three points for Parkinson's side in the process.

With Rory McArdle still away on international duty with Northern Ireland, Parkinson had sprung somewhat of a surprise pre-match by naming Luke Oliver in the starting eleven as his replacement.

For Oliver, it was his first involvement with City's first-team in nearly eleven months after snapping his Achilles tendon at Burton Albion last October.

The defender lasted almost the entire game, only being substituted for Matt Taylor in the final minute of normal time, to cap a thoroughly pleasing day for Parkinson's squad.

88min: Fillo and Craig both have efforts blocked from close range but City can eventually end the spot of pinball in their area when McLaughlin dives on the ball.
87min: Forshaw's rising drive from just outside the area is pushed over the bar thanks to a strong hand by McLaughlin.
86min: Yeates' low in-swinging cross into the area just beats the diving Alan Connell before bouncing into Bonham's arms.
83min: Harlee Dean's attempted cross into the area nearly drops into the far corner of McLaughlin's goal before the 'keeper gets a faint touch on the ball to tip it onto his far post. Donaldson is waiting for a tap-in but, luckily for City, the ball doesn't bounce into his path and City can eventually clear their lines.
82min: Dallas' low drive from outside the area takes a slight deflection before sailing a yard or so past McLaughlin's goal.
80min: Brentford nearly have a goal in strange circumstances when Davies sticks out a leg to try and clear a Brentford delivery into City's penalty box. Instead of clearing the cross though, Davies' connection sees the ball loop up towards McLaughlin's goal before eventually hitting the far post and bouncing away.
78min: Donaldson heads over following Forshaw's wide free-kick delivery into the penalty area.
75min: SUB - The Bantams take off Reid with fellow winger Mark Yeates.
72min: Connell's drive from just inside the area is pushed away by Bonham.

67min: Saville sends a rising drive from a few yards outside the box comfortably over the bar.
63min: GOAL!!!!!! Bradford City 3 Brentford 0 - City have a third for the afternoon when Thompson crashes a thunderous header into the bottom corner from around fourteen yards out following Meredith's cross into the area.
60min: GOAL!!!!! Bradford City 2 Brentford 0 - Wells doubles City's lead as he takes advantage of a Brentford defensive mix-up. With the forward breathing down his neck, Tony Craig tries to head a long ball forward back to Bonham, not knowing that the 'keeper has come out to try and deal with the situation himself. Craig's header flies past Bonham to leave Wells with the simple task of tapping into an unguarded goal.
Fillo looks for a second like he could be in with a shooting chance after forcing his way into the box but Davies comes across to cut out the danger right in the middle of his own area before clearing.57min:
Nathan Doyle is booked for bringing down Saville just inside Brentford territory.56min: YELLOW CARD -
Hanson's headed flick-on finds Wells in space inside the area but his half-volley from a relatively tight angle isn't cleanly struck and it loops comfortably over the bar.53min:
Hanson hits the crossbar! Meredith's searching cross into the area finds the head of Hanson, who sends in a looping header that drops onto crossbar from around twelve yards out.51min:
Brentford restart the game.46min:
HT: Bradford City 1 Brentford 0
Saville's low drive from a similar distance to his effort earlier in the half is saved again with relative ease by McLaughlin.45+3min:
There will be four minutes of time added on at the end of the first period.45min:
41min: GOAL!!!!!!!!!! Bradford City 1 Brentford 0 - City have the lead through Hanson! Meredith's cut-back from by the byline eventually falls into the path of Hanson, who stabs into the roof of Bonham's goal from around ten yards out.
Reeves' delivery from a wide free-kick for Brentford is a teasing one, just missing Clayton Donaldson in the middle before a grateful McLaughlin can gather low by his far post.38min:
The ball breaks to Wells inside the area but his angled drive from around twelve yards out is blocked away by the body of Kevin O'Connor.33min:
Saville's low drive from around 20 yards out is comfortably held by McLaughlin.29min:
Brentford bring on sub goalkeeper Jack Bonham for Trotta.27min: SUB -
25min: RED CARD - A potentially massive moment in the game here as Button is given his marching orders to leave the visitors down to ten men. A ball over the top has Wells in behind Brentford's defence and surging towards the visitors' area. With no defenders to help him out, Button comes out to the edge of his area to try and deal with the situation but ends up taking out the Bermudian with a fierce lunge. Despite Wells' momentum seemingly taking him away from Button's goal, the 'keeper is given a straight red card - presumably for the strong nature of the tackle on Wells.
Davies arrives late to connect with a flighted Jones free-kick but his header goes a couple of yards over.24min:
Reeves' searching ball into the area from a wide free-kick is flicked a couple of yards over the bar by a glancing header from Trotta.18min:
Marcello Trotta is played into space inside City's area by a clever pass from Adam Forshaw. The Brentford striker looks to get his shot away near to McLaughlin's near post but a diving James Meredith is on hand to get something on the effort and help it behind for a corner.15min:
An under-hit back-pass from Tony Craig has Button struggling for a second as Wells bears down on him. The City striker manages to get a block in on Button's attempted kick clear before seeing the ball loop up and sail only a couple of yards over the 'keeper's crossbar.11min:
Davies leaps highest to reach Gary Jones' lofted ball into the area from a deep City free-kick but the defender's downward header finds the side-netting by David Button's near post.10min:
With Nahki Wells just behind him, Jake Reeves is in the perfect position to kick clear a low centre into the area from Kyel Reid following a surging run forward by the City winger. If Reeves hadn't been in place then, Wells would have surely been in for a great scoring chance.9min:
The resulting corner eventually falls into the path of Harlee Dean but the defender fires wildly over just inside the six yard box while positioned lurking near to Jon McLaughlin's far post.5min:
Andrew Davies makes himself big to block a goal-bound from George Saville from just inside City's penalty area following Martin Fillo's cut-back.5min:
The Bantams kick off the match. They will attack towards the T.L Dallas Stand end in the first half.0min:
